General Information
Banking
In Freeport/Lucaya, banks are open from
9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and
9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Most commercial
banks have ATMs that accept VISA, MasterCard,
American Express, and any other bank or credit card
on the Cirrus, Honor, Novus and Plus networks.
Climate
The trade winds that blow almost
continually throughout The Islands of The Bahamas
give the islands a warm, agreeable climate which
varies little year round. The most refreshing time
is between September through May, when the
temperature averages 70-75F degrees. The rest of the
year is a bit warmer with temperatures between
80-85F degrees.
Currency
The legal tender is the Bahamian
dollar (B$1), which is equivalent in value to the US
dollar. Both US and Bahamian dollars are accepted
interchangeably throughout the islands.
Dress Code
Cotton summer clothing, bathing
suits for daytime wear, as well as sports clothes
etc. for the more active guest. Evening may
sometimes require smart casual.
Drivers License
A valid drivers license is
required to drive here. British rules apply, so
please drive on the left and be extra careful on
roundabouts. Visitors may use their home licenses
for up to three months and may also apply for an
international driver's license. Pedestrians should
remember to look right before crossing streets.

Easy access to Grand Bahama
is a key reason for this tropical playground's
appeal as a year-round vacation destination. Just a
short hop by jet, a pleasant day by cruise ship, or
a memorable voyage by private or charter boat, The
Bahamas can be reached quickly by air or by sea.
Freeport has regular flight in from Miami, Ft.
Lauderdale, and also Atlanta via US Airways,
Continental, American Airlines and AirTran.
By Boat
If entering The Bahamas by private boat, there
is a flat fee to clear Customs and Immigration,
which is $150.00 for boats 35 feet and under and
$300.00 for boats 36 ft and over. This will cover a
vessel with four persons or less.
Immigration
Bring valid passports to facilitate entry and
return home. There is a departure tax of $15 per
person.
Entry Requirements
The United States
Department of Homeland Security has announced that
effective January 1, 2006, all U.S. citizens and
foreign nationals traveling to the United States
from The Bahamas will be required to present a valid
passport or another secure, accepted document to
enter or re-enter the United States.

CURRENT REQUIREMENTS FOR U.S.
CITIZENS:
To enter
the Bahamas, U.S. citizens need one of the three
documents listed below, accompanied by a return or
onward journey ticket and proof of funds to support
the visit. Stays not to exceed eight months. NOTE:
If you are using an electronic ticket, please show
Immigration a copy of your travel itinerary and
ticket number.

Passport
Current or expired (up
to a maximum of five years since expiration
date).
2.
Official
Birth Certificate
For persons 17 years of age and older: An
original certificate issued by the Govt. or
court-certified copy (raised or ink seal) is
required, accompanied by an Official Photo ID
issued by the U.S. Govt. (driver's license, or
voter's card). Current and expired IDs are
accepted. Student Photo ID alone is not
acceptable as adequate documentation. NOTE: A
laminated credit card-sized birth certificate is
acceptable, as long as it is an original or
certified copy (raised or ink seal).
3. Original
Naturalization/Citizenship Certificate
An original certificate is required,
accompanied by a recent photo if photo on
naturalization paper is not recent.
CURRENT REQUIREMENTS FOR CANADIAN CITIZENS:
To enter
The Bahamas, Canadian citizens need one of the three
documents listed above, accompanied by a return or
onward journey ticket and proof of funds to support
the visit. Stays not to exceed 21 days.
OTHER COUNTRIES
To enter The Bahamas, citizens from
countries other than the U.S. and Canada require a
Passport that must be valid for six (6) months
beyond the dates of travel and/or a valid Bahamas
Visa. You must also possess a return or onward
journey ticket and proof of funds to support the
visit.
Immigration Requirements
Arrival
Upon arriving in The Islands of The Bahamas,
everyone must fill out and sign an Immigration
form, keeping a portion of the card in hand
until departing. An oral baggage declaration is
required. Each adult visitor is allowed to bring 50
cigars, 200 cigarettes or one pound of tobacco, one
quart of spirits, and a variety of personal effects
(personal radio headsets, bicycle, two still
cameras, etc.). Purchases up to a value of one
hundred dollars are permitted by all arriving
passengers.
Departure
Departures to the US must go through US Customs
pre-clearance. US visitors may take home $800 worth
of duty-free merchandise. The next $l,000 is taxed
at 10%. Gifts valued up to $50 may be mailed home
duty-free. One litre of wine, liqueur or liquor and
five cartons of cigarettes may be taken duty-free.
Boats
If
entering The Bahamas by boat, there is a flat fee to
clear Customs and Immigration, which is $150.00 for
boats 35 feet and under and $300.00 for boats 36 ft
and over. This will cover a vessel with four persons
or less. Also included is the cruising permit,
fishing permit, Customs and Immigration charges and
the $15.00 Departure Tax for up to four persons.
Each additional person above four will be charged
$15.00 Departure Tax. If you plan to stay longer
than 12 months, special arrangement must be made
with Bahamas Customs and Immigration.
